Tina Garnett | Founder & Principal Consultant
Tina Garnett, commonly known as Tee, is a seventh-generation Canadian who descended from Charlotte Handy, a woman who escaped slavery from Virginia to settle in the Great Lakes Black Settlement in Collingwood, Ontario in the 1700s. Tee has dedicated nearly three decades to facilitating courageous conversations and spearheading the development of human rights-based equity and inclusion policies and services within marginalized communities.
In their role as the inaugural Executive Lead & Strategic Advisor of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at SickKids, the Children’s Hospital of Toronto, Tee successfully implemented the institution's first EDI Strategy. This groundbreaking strategy garnered recognition in the Canadian Senate and was highlighted in MacLean's Magazine, ultimately contributing to SickKids ranking #5 in the Canadian health sector for the Forbes Top Diverse Employer Award.
Tee is renowned for their ability to produce evidence-based outcomes that drive both clinical and corporate changes. Notably, they pioneered the implementation of the first patient/caregiver and workforce social-determinant data collection and analysis initiatives. Their work has been instrumental and groundbreaking across various sectors, whether within pediatric institutions, academia, or as a co-founder of an innovative Indigenous youth organization in Northern British Columbia.
Drawing from their experience in senior executive roles, Tee possesses the expertise necessary to support leaders in navigating change management deliverables and fostering constructive conversations.
Their genuine care and approachability, often accompanied by a warm smile, create an environment where individuals feel comfortable and fully supported.
Tee excels in offering pragmatic and practical recommendations to support individuals, teams, and organizations in achieving their fullest potential.
Tee has spent years on their own journey of self-discovery, grounded in the belief that humanity is perpetually capable of improvement, particularly when we confront our limitations and embrace our potential for greatness. With certifications in Human Resource Management and Project Management, Tee further enhanced their expertise by obtaining a master’s degree focused on identifying and dismantling social system barriers.
Continuing to lead others in taking bold and courageous steps, Tee is dedicated to eradicating systemic barriers, harms, and violence, thereby fostering increased retention, morale, and productivity. Their commitment to personal growth extends to completing a Yoga Instructor Certification, which deepens their understanding of the somatic impact of trauma on individual bodies.
Our expertise in the trauma sector enables us to approach conversations with a trauma-informed and healing-focused perspective, often infused with a touch of humor. Years of working with victims of violence have honed our ability to perceive unspoken nuances while maintaining a keen agility in assessing and addressing complex situations. This sensitivity and skill set are invaluable when navigating challenging discussions and understanding where individuals and organizations may be encountering obstacles.
Tee is adept at facilitating conflict resolution – often described as a "conflict whisperer" – provided there is receptivity to receiving the messages being conveyed. Our clients span a diverse range, including governmental officials, governing boards, academia, television production companies, women's shelters/drop-ins, community organizations, art spaces, and provincial/local Indigenous Friendship Centres. Providence Consulting and Training remains dedicated to offering ongoing private support to professionals and leaders, with a steadfast commitment to fostering transformational equity.
Our approach involves providing healing-focused psychoeducational cognitive support to leaders seeking to cultivate more equitable and inclusive workplaces, fostering transformational equity that is conducive to individual and organizational growth.
